A. hubungan sejarah kelahiran PGRI dengan proklamasi kemerdekaan Indonesia Proklamasi kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia terjadi pada hari Jum'at jam 10.00 tanggal 17 Agustus 1945, diproklamasikan oleh Ir. Soekarno di halaman depan rumah kediamannya Jalan Pegangsaan Timur 56 Jakarta, ditanda tangani oleh Soekarno-Hatta atas nama Bangsa Indonesia. Setelah Naskah Proklamasi dibacakan, kemudian dikibarkan Sang Merah Putih oleh pemuda Suhud dan Latief Hendraningrat dengan diiringi lagu kebangsaan Indonesia Raya tanpa dirigent. Sejak saat itulah pekik Kemerdekaan Indonesia menggema di seluruh tanah Air dan ke segenap penjuru dunia. Peristiwa proklamasi tersebut merupakan puncak perjuangan bangsa yang telah dirintis oleh para pendahulu kita sejak Kebangkitan Nasional tanggal 20 Mei 1908, bahkan cita-cita untuk menjadi bangsa yang merdeka sudah diperjuangkan sejak bangsa portugis menginjakkan kaki di Maluku tahun 1512.
